Signup Module does nothing

As it turns out the file /modules/mod_mailchimpsignup/assets/scripts/ajax-subscribe.php was corrupt and caused the 500 server error. I downloaded it via ftp, deleted the old file from the server and copy/pasted the content from the old file into the new one. Probably re-installing the joomlamailer package would have done the trick as well.
