So, it would be great to be able to set the Footer link and text colors, because it may be that when you flip the footer bg from dark to light or vice versa, your text disappears.

you can do this but you need to edit the templates code.
Again upload your templates folder to the other post, and in this one put the colors you wish to change.

Yes, I am very well acquainted. I spent an hour or so tweaking colors to match the website design, where there was a light footer. The site is actually a dark background with white text, but I left the defaults for the content area.
My first post is a feature request to make this easier to do. Obviously, the authors included a semi-WYSIWYG editor on purpose. My idea is very simple: One or two more color options in the editor, like Footer Text and Footer Link colors.
