JooMailer + Mailchimp + Jomsocial: features? documentation?

I'm thinking about using Joomailer + JomSocial + Mailchimp. You have it listed as a feature but don't give any more detail. Any documentation? WHat exactly does Joomailer do to help make Jomsocial work well here?

You can synchronize all existing users with your mailchimp lists and you can also automatically signup new users with the additional component/plugin combo which you find in the downloadable package. From your "lists" interface in joomailer you can then associate interest groupings with profile fields in order for you to segment your subscriber list for targeted email campaigns. Also when accessing a profile from within joomailer about a user it will pull some infos from jomsocial, like the avatar.

Will changes to a user profile in MailChimp be synced back to Joomla/Jomsocial? I.E. if someone changes their email address using the obligatory link in the mailchimp email, will it be reflected in the Joomla user table?

Will registration on the Jomsocial network immediately subscribe someone to a mailchimp list?

No, changes made in mailchimp will not be reflected in Joomla. However, if a user was to go to their profile in Joomla and change their email and you were using the registration plugin then their new email would be added to your list, assuming they had the newsletter checkbox checked. The old email would also remain subscribed to the list. They would have to unsubscrive this old address manually using the unsubscribe link in the mailchimp email.

During the Jomsocial signup, on the second page there is a checkbox that users can click if they want to sign up to your newsletter. This is not automatically checked as this is against regulations but if the user does check it then they will be registered with the network and subscribed to your newsletter immediately.

We can only manage actions that are performed from the Joomla end of things like in the example I have described above. Users or campaigns created in Mailchimp cannot be automatically added to Joomla at present. I'm sure it could be done but it might violate some kind of terms of service. For example, if a user signs up to one of your newsletters it does not automatically mean that they want to be a member on your site.

What about when members (users) to the Joomla/Jomsocial site are deleted - will their emailadress be removed from the MailChimp list aswell? Or will I eventually end up with a bunch of adresses who are no longer members on the site itself?

That's a good point. As it currently stands the members will remain on the mailing list. We'll modify the component so that when they delete their accounts they are also removed from the mailing list. I can't say when this will done but hopefully you will not have too many people deleting their accounts from your site in the meantime.

I have a (free) trial membership that runs for two weeks, and then the paid membership that starts after that. So - I have quite a few people signing up for the first two weeks, and then they are deleted if they choose not to upgrade.

So - I will just wait for your modification I think. Could you post here when this particular issue has been solved?

Hi Chris,

I've installed Jomsocial 2.0.2 and Joomlailer 1.5.1, I've enabled plugin System - Joomailer Mailchimp Signup, I've selected Newsletter List and Fields but when I create an account in Jomsocial I don't see the check box to register to the newsletter.
Could it be because of Jomsocial Version?

Yes, this is caused by the JomSocial version. Currently JomSocial 2 is not supported yet but we're working on it. Please bear with us.
